Fall 71, meet 1972.
I've been listening to the Fall 71 shows this year and this one is as good a reason as any to show an appreciation for the period. October and November
...
are full of fun early takes on new songs that became favorites as well as many thrilling sequence in the jams that were played in a new style than they were before the break and Keith's entrance, particularly because of the cowboy sandwiches inserted into the Dark Stars and Other Ones, which they'd just started to tinker with in August. They tinker with it even more in the Fall, trying Bobby McGee and even an Other One>Mexicali>Other One on 12/4. And they varied with Me and My Uncle, sometimes it came really smoothly out of the groove they were jamming on, or out of noise, other times it materializes quietly. Same with the exits, sometimes it's a blast and a big charge right back into the Other One theme, other times it goes back into a quiet space. This one is tremendous, the Uncle is intensely paced and there's a particularly rowdy jam late in the second Other One. The whole jam sequence is rowdy, noisy, spacey, snd otherwise everything you want in a Fall 71 Other One. Phil particularly seemed to enjoy the new dynamics they were playing with, often being quite insistent on where things should go. This show that kicks off December, while missing all the fun stuff of a typical first set, also gives us Pigpen back. While he's not 100 percent on this mini tour they all remember things like how much ass Mr Charlie could kick, and the set format begins to become what Europe 72 will be with Pigpen right in there in the song rotation (and a Saturday Night at every show...). He plays his little heart out on organ on some of the jams, as well as adds flavor throughout the show. But they still hadn't quite figured out what Playing in the Band could do and where it could go yet, had to wait till Europe until they began to figure that out, and even then they weren't cracking much more than 10 minutes. So anyway, yeah, another awesome Fall 71 Other One sequence worth hearing...

Not a review, as much of a report of a weird phenomenon
I downloaded the individual tracks by extracting the URL's from the list in the M3U file. When I open the files in Audacity, they're shorter in time than
...
when I open them with Media Player Classic. I'm not talking about a few seconds - the difference is maybe 20%. There doesn't seem to be anything cut out of the shorter versions, so I'm scratching my head over this. I opened other recordings in Media Player Classic and Audacity, and they would match in duration, so something weird is going on with this particular recording. VLC Media Player shows the same shorter duration as Audacity.

KILLER material to be found here....!!
The big news here is the Other One suite.....so many twists and turns, it takes repeated listening to absorb it all. This epic monster goes like this: 1)
...
A Cryptical Envelopment > 2) Drums > 3) The Other One > 4) Space jam > 5) Space > 6) Me And My Uncle jam > 7) The Other One > 8) Space > 9) Me And My Uncle > 10) The Other One > 11) Space jam > 12) Space > 13) jam > 14) The Other One WHEW!!!.....and what a journey it is: thirty minutes of Pure Bliss, a SERIOUS 1971 highlight. I downloaded the AUD and optimized it with the Audacity program before I burnt a disc. The NFA > GDTRFB > NFA kicks butt, too!! Regardless of format, it's worth serious effort to add this little gem to your 1971 collection!!
